THE MOMENT YOU REALIZED YOU LOVED FASHION:
I was six and fell in mad love with a blue & white pinstripe polyester jumpsuit. It had a giant strawberry on the front pocket and a big zipper. I wore it relentlessly until my mom tried to hide it from me. It really taught me everything there is to know about the importance of utility and whimsy in fashion which, to this day, defines everything I love most in my closet.
FIRST THRIFT STORE FIND:
A vintage Pucci clutch with the tiny matching wallet still inside, perfectly intact. It was $10. I screamed when I found it, and I still have it.
WHO WAS YOUR MENTOR?
My best friend Eden. She continues to be my wise sage on everything from skincare to nutrition and all things relating to love and friendship. Norma Kamali was a mentor and style icon for me long before I ever met her in person. Since I've gotten to know her, I feel very lucky to have her in my life as a mentor and sounding board. Beyond having such a brilliant mind and perspective, she has the kind of confidence and real truth in herself that I aspire to embody. She is the real deal.
BEST PART OF YOUR WORKDAY:
About an hour after I arrive at work in the morning, after I've sifted through the first batch of emails, I spend time on our site and connect with various members of my team. I love the way everything feels at 11 a.m.
YOU'VE GOT A LOT ON YOUR PLATE, HOW DO YOU STAY ORGANIZED?
I make a lot of lists, which I discipline myself to track daily and weekly. I also happen to have the most awesome assistant on the planet, Samm. She is quickly becoming the boss of my whole life.
WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO HANDLE A CONFLICT AT WORK?
Always, always, always take a moment. Take a walk around the block. Write that crazy aggro email and then just delete it. Do whatever you need to do to come at the situation with clarity and calm.
IF YOU COULD GIVE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE TO BUDDING WRITERS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Write as if you were speaking and just start from there, instead of writing how you think other people want you to. It takes a lot of courage and tenacity to just be yourself and work on honing that.
DESCRIBE THE PERFECT SUNDAY:
Sleeping in, breakfast at home with my husband, running outside, sweating, taking a drive, catching a weird-good movie halfway through, reading (not from a device), calling someone I miss and love, getting think time to plan the week ahead, cooking a decent dinner, being happy.
LAST THING YOU READ THAT MOVED YOU:
I just re-read Ilene Beckerman's book What We Do For Love in preparation for an interview. It's so simple, honest, and direct that it makes your heart swell.
MOST DELICIOUS THING YOU'VE EATEN LATELY:
An organic soft-boiled egg on spelt toast with butter, salt, and pepper.
ALL-TIME FAVORITE STYLE ICONS:
There are many, but mainly, Dianne Wiest's character Holly in Woody Allen's Hannah and Her Sisters, Barbara Hulanicki from Biba, and Pheobe Philo.
